About VMS

In the fall of 1995, due to the overgrowing population in Los Lunas Schools, a second middle school, Manzano Vista Middle School, was opened. Shedding their stripes, the new middle school community chose a cougar as their mascot. School colors were purple, black, and silver. The school was first housed at the Daniel Fernandez Campus in the blue barracks during construction for the 1995-1996 school year and only 7th grade students were present on campus. Construction was completed at our current location and both 7th and 8th grade students attended classes on the brand new campus for the 1996-1997 school year. Later on, as the population continued to grow, a new high school was build for the east side Los Lunas Schools. To align with our high school counterpart, our school mascot was changed from the cougar to the jaguar during the 2005-2006 school year. Manzano Vista Jaguars took on the cherry, silver, and turquoise colors of the Valencia High School Jaguars. Finally, for the 2011-2012 school year, in order to complete the alignment with our high school, the school was renamed as Valencia Middle School. No matter the name, mascot, or colors, our school fosters a strong sense of community and cultivates pride among its students and staff. We would love to have you visit our campus. Go Jags!

Currently, Valencia Middle School offers several different after school extended learning programs through the New Mexico Out of School Time initiative (NMOST).  The clubs for our 2023-2024 school year include E-sports, Archery, Dance, Robotics, Botball, Ham Radio, Renaissance, Choir, Board Games, and Book Club. These clubs give our students the opportunity to dive deeper into their learning, collaborate with their peers and teachers, experience different learning environments, and build community. Intervention time is also embedded into the program. All VMS students are invited to join a club. Transportation is provided for students.

Students at Valencia Middle School are surrounded with many technology enhancements to aid in their learning. We utilize Apple products along with ViewSonic Interactive Flat Panels to foster technology enhanced learning for all. VMS has created a state of the art technology Lab. This space located in our L-Lab building offers our students opportunities to collaborate across the world with our HAM Radio. VMS HAM radio station KJ5DZQ and VMS school repeater 443.425 transmitter frequency, and 448.425 receiver frequency. This has been built in partnership with the Valencia County Amateur Radio Association and funded with grants from Facebook, ARRL, in conjunction with Los Lunas Schools funding. The technology lab is also equipped with several robots for our robotics elective, robotics club,  and Botball club. These include Sphero Spark, Sphero RVR, Sphero Maker spacer, Sphero little bit kits, Micro Bit kits, Botball demo bots, Botball create bots series 2, Botball create bots series 3, and Champ bots. The lab also features a Geochron digital Atlas and two ViewSonic Interactive Flat Panels. Our lab will soon include 3D Printers, Soldering kits, and basic circuit analysis equipment.
